[EN below] Archive 2.0: ResearchLab is ontstaan uit een samenwerking tussen studenten uit het (HBO) kunstonderwijs, docenten en de Stichting Spaarnestad Photo. Het is een lesprogramma waarbinnen studenten worden uitgedaagd om zich te laten inspireren door de rijkdom van het historische fotomateriaal uit de Collectie Spaarnestad. Er is ruimte voor maximaal 15 studenten per semester. Spaarnestad Photo biedt de mogelijkheid om toegang te krijgen tot de fotocollectie met het originele fotografische materiaal en andere documenten (persberichten, publicaties, magazines) daterend uit de 20ste eeuw. Vragen worden beantwoord in relatie tot het historisch perspectief, uitgebreider dan de beperkte informatie die gevonden wordt op Google of Wikipedia.

Leerdoelen:
- Affiniteit met de methode van werken met het archief en de archiefmaterialen
- De mogelijkheid om te experimenteren met het gevonden materiaal en nieuwe ideeën te ontwikkelen
- Kennis over succesvol gebruik van archiefmateriaal door kunstenaars (lezing, workshop)
- Onderzoek doen dat verder reikt dan Google of Wikipedia
- Ontwikkelen van vaardigheden op basis van online- en/of offline-presentatie van de eindresultaten

[EN] Archive 2.0: ReseachLab is an ongoing collaboration between students, lecturers and Spaarnestad Photo Foundation. The program challenges students to express their personal views on photographs found in the Collection Spaarnestad by producing new work referring to the specific visual material the choose to focus on. The program will critically reflect on various topics from a variety of historical and contemporary perspectives: socio-cultural, anthropological, political and visual. Based on the given access to the unique, rich collection of photographs from Spaarnestad Photo / National Archives depicting the history of Dutch life during the 20th century.

Spaarnestad Photo gives the best opportunity to access original photographic materials and other documents from the previous century to ask and answer these questions within the proper, historical frame of reference, beyond just the limited resources of Google or Wikipedia. As said once by American-Spanish writer, poet and philosopher George Santayana, "Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it."

Learning outcomes:
- affinity with the methodology of working with the archive and archival materials
- ability to experiment with the found footage and develop original, experimental, artistic, individual interpretations of it in a chosen (multi)media format
- knowledge on related successful artistic practices inspired by working with an archive
- research beyond Google and Wikipedia
- presentation and documentation skills based on an online and/or offline demonstration of the project results
